Technology Education unfolds the history of technological development. Knowing our history enables us to understand the benefits and consequences of using past and present technology. It may also give us an idea of what new developments we can expect from the future and what their impacts upon society may be.
The Technology Education curriculum is delivered through minds-on, as well as hands-on activities. Since more of the students’ senses become involved in the learning process, these multi-sensory activities increase learning and retention of information. These activities reinforce the knowledge accumulated in Technology Education and other school subjects.
Technology Education activities are often done in groups. These group activities offer a stronger and more diversified pool of knowledge to draw from as opposed to working alone. These experiences also give students an opportunity to learn how to work, communicate and cooperate with others while striving to achieve a common goal. Since most jobs require that people work together in groups, it is important to develop these inter-personal skills in their preparation for the world of work.
